NBC earned solid numbers for its first NFL telecast of the preseason.
Sunday’s Chargers/Cowboys NFL preseason game drew a 7.1 overnight rating on NBC, the highest overnight of the preseason. There was no comparable game in Week 2 of last year’s preseason.
Though a preseason high, the 7.1 overnight is actually lower than both preseason games on NBC last year — the Cowboys/Bengals Hall of Fame Game (7.6) and Vikings/49ers in Week 3 (7.2).
Dallas-Ft. Worth was the top market for the game, with a 23.7 rating. San Diego (22.2), San Antonio (15.1), Austin, TX (14.7), and Houston (12.5) rounded out the top five.
The Chargers/Cowboys game was added to NBC’s schedule after the network’s first preseason telecast, the Bears/Rams Hall of Fame Game, was canceled due to the NFL lockout.
