Most of the decade will have come and gone by the time Jon Gruden‘s newly-extended Monday Night Football contract expires.
Gruden has agreed to an “exclusive agreement” with ESPN to remain an analyst for Monday Night Football an additional five years, ESPN announced Monday. The extension kicks in with the 2012-13 season.
This is Gruden’s third year as a Monday Night Football analyst, having replaced Tony Kornheiser in the 2009-10 NFL season.
Gruden’s deal, according to an ESPN press release, will “keep him … out of coaching for the next five years” (ESPN, 10/17).
When contacted by this website, ESPN declined to comment specifically on whether Gruden’s contract prevents him from coaching. However, a network spokesman said Gruden had “clearly made a long-term commitment” to ESPN.
