Recent sports media notes, including CBS shifting LSU/Alabama to primetime, NBC Sports moving its operations to Connecticut, and Turner Sports’ new Duke basketball documentary.
- CBS to Air LSU/Alabama in Primetime: The November 5 #1 LSU/#2 Alabama college football game will air on CBS at 8 PM ET after the network agreed to an agreement with ESPN. ESPN holds the rights to SEC night games, but CBS is contractually allowed to air one primetime game each season. Because CBS has already aired that game (Florida/Alabama on October 1), the network had to work out a deal with ESPN for “future scheduling considerations” in exchange for moving LSU/Alabama. With the 3:30 PM window vacant, CBS also acquired the November 5 Army/Air Force game from Versus in exchange for the November 19 Colorado/TCU matchup, which was to air on CBS Sports Network. - NBC Sports Moves to Connecticut: Starting in 2013, NBC Sports Group headquarters will largely relocate to a renovated Clairol facility in Stamford, CT. The 32-acre space will include office space and “numerous state-of-the-art studios,” though NBC’s Football Night in America will remain in New York. (Fang’s Bites, New York Times)
- Turner Sports to Air Duke Documentary: Prior to the 2012 NCAA Tournament, TruTV will air a documentary focused on the 1991 and 1992 national champion Duke men’s basketball teams. Titled Duke ’91 & ’92, the documentary includes interviews with members of the two teams, “revealing never-before-told stories about what drove their success and, simultaneously, what drove them apart.” (Turner Sports)
