NBC NHL analyst Mike Milbury will not face charges in an assault and battery case involving a twelve-year old.
A Massachusetts clerk magistrate ruled Friday that there was no probable cause to charge Milbury with assault and battery on a child, threats to commit a crime and disorderly conduct. Milbury had been accused of grabbing, shaking and threatening a twelve-year old hockey player who had gotten into an altercation with his son (boston.com, 12/23).
In a statement, Milbury explained the incident. “I separated two 12 year old boys in a Pee Wee hockey game, one of whom was my son. I was a coach and supervisor on the ice that day when the scuffle broke out after the game had concluded and the referee had left. I know I acted responsibly to break up an altercation between two young boys in order to prevent potential injury to both.”
With his legal troubles apparently over, Milbury will return to his position as NHL analyst for NBC. According to Puck the Media, NBC had planned to replace Milbury with Jeremy Roenick on the January 2 Rangers/Flyers Winter Classic, but it was not clear if those plans would change.
