NBC Sports Network and ESPN have spent the better part of the last year sparring over sports TV rights, but if Advertising Age is to be believed, the networks could soon be battling for top talent as well.
Citing an anonymous source, AdAge.com reported Thursday that a “top ESPN name is currently in competing negotiations” with both ESPN and NBC Sports Network.
It was not immediately known who the ESPN personality is, or what kind of on-air role he or she plays.
Currently, the talent on NBC Sports Network is homegrown, with programs hosted by NHL on NBC/Versus anchor Liam McHugh, NBCSports.com writer Mike Florio, former CSN Mid-Atlantic anchor Russ Thaler and CNBC reporter Darren Rovell. The face of NBC Sports, Bob Costas, will host a new show next year.
