Despite earning the third-highest NFL overnight of the season on NBC, Sunday’s Giants/Cowboys game was still down slightly from last year.
The Week 14 edition of Sunday Night Football, pitting the Giants against the rival Cowboys, earned a 16.1 overnight rating on NBC — down 2% from Week 14 last year (PHI/DAL: 16.5), but up 17% from Week 14 in 2009 (PHI/NYG: 13.8).
The 16.1 overnight is the third-highest of the season for the NFL on NBC (fifteen telecasts), behind only the Saints/Packers NFL Kickoff Game (17.2) and Cowboys/Jets a few nights later (16.9).
Overall, Sunday’s game ranks as the seventh-highest rated regular season NFL telecast on NBC in the metered markets since the network resumed coverage in the 2006-07 season.
The Cowboys’ narrow defeat earned a 41.6 rating in the Dallas-Ft. Worth market, tops among the metered markets. San Antonio (29.8), Austin (25.1), New Orleans (24.8) and Albuquerque (24.4) rounded out the top five. New York (21.5) ranked seventh.
Due to the disparity in market size, the 21.5 rating in New York equaled more TV homes (1.588M) than the 41.6 did in Dallas (1.070M).
