The 2012 Major League Baseball regular season ended in ugly fashion for Fox Sports.
Regional MLB action featuring Tigers/Twins drew a 1.0 final rating and 1.5 million viewers on FOX last Saturday, down 33% in ratings and 31% in viewership from Red Sox/Yankees last year (1.5, 2.174M), and down 55% and 56%, respectively, from Yankees/Red Sox in 2010 (2.2, 3.385M).
The 1.0 rating is more than likely the lowest ever for Major League Baseball on broadcast television.
For some perspective, the lowest rated NBA game ever on broadcast — Suns/Kings on ABC in 2007 — also drew a 1.0. The lowest NHL rating on broadcast was a 0.5, set on multiple occasions.
Saturday’s telecast tied Sunday’s bull riding coverage on on CBS (1.0) as the weekend’s lowest rated non-studio sports program on broadcast.
