FOX earned another small audience for Major League Baseball coverage last Saturday. In other news, final ratings held up for tape-delayed PGA Tour coverage on CBS, and rain-delayed Nationwide Series from Talladega suffered declines on ESPN.
Another Weak Week For Baseball on FOX
- Regional Major League Baseball action featuring Orioles/Angels drew a 1.2 final rating and 1.9 million viewers on FOX last Saturday, flat in ratings compared to coverage featuring White Sox/Tigers last year (1.2), and down 14% and 10%, respectively, from coverage featuring Cardinals/Braves in 2011 (1.4, 2.1M). All five MLB telecasts on FOX this season have earned less than 2.0 rating, with last week’s 1.2 a season-low. (Weekend numbers from Sports Business Daily)
Despite Tape-Delay, PGA Does Well at Quail Hollow
- Tape delayed final round coverage of the PGA Tour Quail Hollow Championship drew a 2.1 final rating on CBS last Sunday, down 9% from last year (2.3), but up 17% from 2011 (1.8). Final round play was moved up due to rain and concluded before CBS’ telecast window began. On Saturday, live third round action drew a 1.6 — up 23% from last year (1.3), and up 33% from 2011 (1.2). Ratings Drop For Rain-Delayed Nationwide Race From Talladega
- Last Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series Aaron’s 312, which was delayed three hours due to rain, earned a 1.4 U.S. rating and 2.3 million viewers on ESPN — down 39% in ratings and 35% in viewership from last year’s race on ABC (2.3, 3.5M), and down 22% in both measures from the 2011 race on ESPN2 (1.8, 2.9M). Rain delay coverage from 3:09-6:20 PM ET averaged a 0.7 and 1.1 million. (Weekend numbers from Son of the Bronx)
