Overnight ratings held up quite well for tape-delayed coverage of the PGA Tour at Quail Hollow on Sunday. In other news, FOX and ESPN had mixed results for baseball over the weekend, and the Golden State Warriors’ first round victory set a ratings record on CSN Bay Area.
Despite Tape-Delay, Only Modest Decline For PGA at Quail Hollow
- Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Quail Hollow Championship drew a 2.2 overnight rating on CBS Sunday afternoon, down 8% from last year (2.4), but up 10% from 2011 (2.0). The final round was moved up several hours due to rain and concluded before CBS’ telecast window began, leaving the network to televise coverage on tape delay. On Saturday, third round action drew a 1.8 overnight — up 20% from last year (1.5), and up 39% from 2011 (1.3). (Weekend numbers from Sports Business Daily)
MLB on FOX Hits Season-Low; “SNB” Up
- Regional Major League Baseball action featuring Orioles/Angels in 39% of markets drew a season-low 1.4 overnight rating on FOX Saturday afternoon, even with coverage featuring White Sox/Tigers last year, and down 18% from coverage featuring Cardinals/Braves in 2011 (1.7). ESPN had a much better weekend, as the network’s Dodgers/Giants “Sunday Night Baseball” game earned a 1.6 overnight — up 23% from Phillies/Nationals last year (1.3). (ESPN, Sports Business Daily)
Warriors Set Record on CSN Bay Area
- Game 6 of the Nuggets/Warriors first round NBA playoff series — won by the Warriors to clinch the series victory — earned a 6.31 rating on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area Thursday night, the network’s highest rated Warriors telecast ever. Keep in mind the game also aired on TNT. Overall, the Warriors/Nuggets series averaged a 4.74 rating on CSN Bay Area, with each game having also aired on a national outlet.
