The Royals had a record-setting weekend on Fox Sports Kansas City. In other news, FOX scored a double-digit increase in overnights for MLB coverage, but did not fare well for primetime soccer.
Royals Set Ratings Record Twice in Three Games
- The Royals’ recent series against the Mets set multiple ratings records in Kansas City. Sunday’s series finale earned a 9.7 rating on Fox Sports Kansas City, the highest rating ever for a Royals telecast on the network. The previous high was set by Friday’s series-opener, which earned a 9.1 rating. Prior to Friday, the highest Royals rating on FSKC was an 8.8 for Tigers/Royals in June. (royals.mlb.com)
Modest Rise in Overnights For MLB on FOX
- Regional Major League Baseball action featuring Rangers/Athletics in 39% of markets earned a 2.0 overnight rating on FOX Saturday afternoon, up 11% from coverage featuring Cubs/Cardinals in 2011 (1.8). Due to the Olympics, there was no telecast on the comparable day last year. (Weekend numbers from Sports Business Daily)
Primetime Soccer Not Much of a Draw For FOX
- The Real Madrid/Everton International Champions Cup semifinal drew a mere 0.6 overnight rating on FOX Saturday night, one of the lowest overnights in recent memory for a primetime sporting event on broadcast TV. By comparison, ABC’s primetime IndyCar race in June drew an overnight nearly twice-as-large (1.1). (Weekend numbers from Sports Business Daily)
