Weeks after announcing a similar agreement with ESPN for the ‘old Big East,’ CBS Sports has struck a sub-licensing deal with Fox Sports for the new Big East.
Under a deal with Fox Sports, CBS and the CBS Sports Network will combine to televise 20 Big East men’s basketball games this season and up to 30 games per year from 2014-19. Most of the games will air on the CBS Sports Network. The CBS broadcast network will air just two games this year and up to five each season thereafter.
This season, the CBS broadcast network will air Butler/Georgetown on February 8 (1 PM ET) and Marquette/Villanova on March 2 (2 PM). CBSSN opens its Big East schedule with Mount St. Mary’s/Villanova on November 13 (7 PM) and concludes with Providence/Creighton on March 8 (7:30 PM).
In an earlier deal with ESPN, CBSSN obtained rights to over two dozen American Athletic Conference men’s basketball games per season. Combined, the sub-licensing deals give CBSSN 43 men’s college basketball telecasts this season, and up to 55 per year starting in 2014.
The overwhelming majority of Big East men’s basketball games (117) are scheduled to air on Fox Sports 1. The Fox Sports 2 network is scheduled for 12 games, the Fox Sports Net regional sports networks are set for 15, and the FOX broadcast network is scheduled to air just one game — Ohio State/Marquette on November 16 (3 PM).
FS1 will televise the entire Big East men’s basketball tournament, including the title game on March 15 (8:30 PM).
