Overnight ratings dropped double-digits for coverage of the Breeders’ Cup on NBC. In other news, the St. Louis Blues set a record during the month of October, and the Detroit Pistons have gotten off to their best start since 2005.
Breeders’ Cup Down Double-Digits on NBC
- Primetime coverage of the Breeders’ Cup Classic drew a 1.4 overnight rating on NBC Saturday, down 36% from last year’s coverage, which had a lead-in from an overtime Notre Dame football game (2.2). Compared to coverage on ESPN in 2011, which aired in an earlier timeslot, Saturday’s overnight increased by 17%. (Sports Business Daily)
Blues Have Best October on FS Midwest
- St. Louis Blues games averaged a 3.5 rating on Fox Sports Midwest during the month of October, up 94% from October 2011 (1.8), and the network’s highest October average ever for Blues coverage. Keep in mind last year’s October games were canceled by the NHL owners; the first month of the delayed, lockout-shortened 2013 Blues season averaged a 5.0 rating. (blues.nhl.com)

- Through three games, Fox Sports Detroit has averaged a 4.1 rating for Detroit Pistons coverage — up 52% from last year, and the highest average through this point of the season since 2005. Friday’s Pistons/Grizzlies game drew a 4.0 on FSD. (Nielsen)
