The MLS Cup took a backseat to the World Cup Draw over the weekend.
The 2013 MLS Cup earned approximately 1.0 million viewers on ESPN and UniMás Saturday afternoon, down 20% from last year’s telecast on the networks last year (1.3M), and down 24% from the 2011 match on ESPN and Galavision (1.3M).
The MLS Cup drew fewer viewers than Friday’s World Cup Draw on ESPN2 and Univision, which earned 1.6 million across the two networks.
On ESPN in particular, the MLS Cup drew a 0.3 U.S. rating and 505,000 viewers — the smallest audience ever for the event on an English-language network. With that said, the telecast topped ESPN2’s coverage of the World Cup Draw (505K to 489K).
Keep in mind the MLS Cup aired directly opposite the SEC Championship Game on CBS.
