The opening weekend of the 2014 Winter Olympics earned solid numbers on NBC, albeit on par with Turin in 2006.
Primetime coverage of the Sochi Olympics earned a 15.7 overnight rating on NBC Sunday night, down 5% from Vancouver in 2010 (16.5), but up 4% from Turin in 2006 (15.1). The comparable night of the most recent Olympics — London in 2012 — earned a 21.7 overnight.
On Saturday, the primetime window scored a 15.2 overnight — actually down a tick from Turin in 2006 (15.3). Overnights for the comparable night of the Vancouver Olympics were not available.
Locally, Minneapolis was the top market for Saturday’s action (22.4), followed by Portland (20.7), Salt Lake City (20.6), Denver (20.3), and Milwaukee (19.8). On Sunday, Salt Lake City led all markets (23.5), followed by Minneapolis (22.0), Denver (21.8), Kansas City (20.9), Milwaukee (20.2).
