For the second straight night, overnight ratings for the 2014 Sochi Olympics fell double-digits from Vancouver in 2010.
Primetime coverage of the Winter Olympics earned a 14.4 overnight rating on NBC Thursday night, down 13% from Vancouver in 2010 (16.6), but up 4% from Turin in 2006 (13.8). The comparable night of the most recent Olympics — London in 2012 — drew a 23.1 overnight.
The 13% decline in overnights is the second-biggest of this year’s Olympics, ahead of only the 31% drop for Wednesday’s action. With that said, the decline could easily narrow into the single-digits when the final numbers are released.
Minneapolis and Salt Lake City continued to reign atop the metered markets. Minneapolis was the top market with a 20.9 and Salt Lake City was in second-place with a 20.6. Rounding out the top five were Denver (20.4), Kansas City (19.1) and Milwaukee (18.3).
Over on NBCSN, live coverage of the Olympics earned a 1.1 overnight — up 144% from the comparable day of the 2012 London Summer Olympics.
