The UEFA Champions League final combined for good numbers last weekend.
Saturday’s Real Madrid/Atletico Madrid UEFA Champions League final earned a combined 3.1 million viewers across FOX and Fox Deportes, up 48% from Bayern Munich/Dortmund last year (2.1M), and the largest combined audience for the UEFA final since Barcelona/Manchester United in 2011 (4.2M). The 2011 match is the only one to earn a larger audience since Fox Sports began airing the UEFA final in 2010.
By comparison, Championship Sunday of the English Premier League earned a combined 1.8 million viewers across ten networks earlier this month. A United States/Mexico friendly in April remains the most-watched soccer telecast of the year-to-date, with 4.9 million across ESPN and Univision.
FOX alone earned a 1.1 final rating and 1.9 million viewers, up 22% in ratings and 41% in viewership from last year (0.9, 1.3M), and flat and down 4%, respectively, from Chelsea/Bayern Munich in 2012 (1.1, 2.0M).
Of note, FOX earned a larger audience for the UEFA final than for primetime Major League Baseball coverage the same day (1.92M to 1.83M). The MLB telecast had a slightly higher rating (1.2 to 1.1).
