FOX continued to struggle with Major League Baseball coverage over the weekend.
Regional MLB action on FOX earned a 1.4 overnight rating Saturday night, down 26% from last year (1.9), down 39% from 2012 (2.3), and tied as the second-lowest overnight for primetime MLB on broadcast television. The four lowest overnights have taken place this season alone, with the season premiere bottoming out at a 1.2.
Compared to the fourth telecast of last season, an afternoon window on April 27, Saturday’s overnight declined 18% from a 1.7.
As has been the case all season, MLB on FOX had to compete with high-profile sporting events on other networks. ESPN’s coverage of the Ivory Coast/Japan World Cup match doubled MLB on FOX with a 2.8 overnight — and that does not even factor in the Univision audience.
