ESPN earned some of the lowest numbers in years for the Wimbledon singles finals.
The match portion of the Novak Djokovic/Roger Federer Wimbledon men’s final earned a 1.9 U.S. rating and 2.8 million viewers on ESPN Sunday morning, down 10% in ratings and 8% in viewership from Andy Murray/Djokovic last year (2.1, 3.0M) and down 24% and 28%, respectively, from Federer/Murray in 2012 (2.5, 3.9M).
The full telecast window earned 2.4 million viewers from 9:00 AM-3:00 PM ET, the second-smallest audience for coverage featuring the men’s final since at least 2001. Only 2010 coverage on NBC earned a smaller audience (2.3M).
Saturday’s Petra Kvitová/Eugenie Bouchard women’s final drew a mere 0.9 and 1.3 million, down 31% in ratings and 29% in viewership from Marion Bartoli/Sabine Liskicki last year (1.3, 1.9M). The 2012 final, the most recent to feature Serena Williams, earned a 2.0 rating.
The full telecast window drew an astonishingly low 704,000 viewers on ESPN, most likely the smallest audience ever for tennis coverage that included a Grand Slam final (excluding the Australian Open).
