Notre Dame football was not much of a draw in week one of the season.
Saturday’s Rice/Notre Dame college football game drew a 1.4 overnight rating on NBC, down 13% from Temple/Notre Dame last year (1.6) and down a third from NBC’s Purdue/Notre Dame opener in 2012 (2.1).
The 1.4 overnight is the second-lowest for a Notre Dame opener on NBC since at least 1997, edging only Nevada/Notre Dame in 2009 (1.3).
Head-to-head, Rice/Notre Dame was crushed by West Virginia/Alabama on ABC (4.1). With that said, it was not the lowest rated on broadcast in the metered markets — finishing ahead of the primetime Fresno State/USC game on FOX (0.9).
