An early morning college football game still attracted more than a million viewers last weekend. In other news, ESPN had another soft performance for Sunday Night Baseball and the English Premier League continues to deliver solid numbers for the NBC family of networks.
Penn State/UCF Solid Despite Morning Timeslot
- The Penn State/UCF college football game from Dublin, Ireland, drew a 0.9 U.S. rating and 1.3 million viewers on ESPN2 last Saturday morning. The game began at 8:30 AM ET and was topped head-to-head by College Gameday on ESPN (1.0, 1.5M). Even so, it tied Appalachian State/Michigan later in the day as the week’s highest rated game on ESPN2. (Wknd. numbers from Awful Announcing)
Another Weak Outing For Sunday Night Baseball
- The Indians/Royals Sunday Night Baseball game drew a 0.8 U.S. rating and 1.2 million viewers on ESPN last weekend, up 33% in ratings and 37% in viewership from Mets/Nationals last year (0.6, 853K), but the second-least viewed Sunday night game of the season. The three least-viewed Sunday Night Baseball telecasts of the year have taken place in the past three weeks. (Wknd. numbers from Awful Announcing)
EPL Doing Well on NBC Networks
- The first three weeks of the English Premier League season averaged 416,000 viewers on NBCSN, up 11% from the comparable point last year (376K). Over on the NBC broadcast network, last week’s Chelsea/Everton match drew a 0.6 U.S. rating and 960,000 viewers — the most-watched match of the young season.
