A record local audience watched the Kansas City Royals clinch a playoff appearance last week. In other news, Derek Jeter‘s farewell tour was not much of a draw on FOX and overnights for the PBR increased by a quarter on CBS.
Royals Set Record For Playoff-Clincher
- Friday’s Royals/White Sox Major League Baseball game, which saw the Royals clinch their first playoff appearance since 1985, drew a 13.6 rating on Fox Sports Kansas City — easily the highest ever for the Royals on the network. The previous high was a 12.3 for a game against the Marlins last year. Three of the four highest rated Royals games on FSKC took place this season. (Fox Sports Kansas City)
Low Overnight For Jeter’s FOX Farewell
- FOX earned a 1.0 overnight rating for the Yankees/Red Sox game Saturday afternoon, down 29% from coverage featuring Pirates/Reds last year (1.4), down a tick from coverage featuring Tigers/Twins in 2012 (1.1), and the second-lowest overnight of the season for MLB on FOX. The game marked the second-to-last appearance of retired Yankees SS Derek Jeter. Fox Sports 1 drew a 0.2 for concurrent coverage of Pirates/Reds. (Sat. numbers from ShowBuzz Daily)
PBR Sees Increase on CBS
- The Professional Bull Riders’ Battle at the Bay earned a 1.5 overnight rating on CBS Sunday afternoon, up 25% from the PBR event on the comparable weekend last year (1.2). The telecast generated an increase despite the fact that its lead-in — the NFL singleheader on CBS — had a double-digit decline. (Sun. numbers from Sports Business Daily)
