College football was not a big draw on FOX last weekend, but the network still got a big increase for its primetime game.
Last Saturday’s Arizona State/USC college football game drew a 1.4 final rating and 2.3 million viewers on FOX, up 17% in ratings and 13% in viewership from TCU/Oklahoma last year (1.2, 2.0M) but down 52% and 50%, respectively, from West Virginia/Texas in 2012 (2.9, 4.6M).
The Sun Devils’ upset victory marked a recovery of sorts from the previous week, when Baylor/Iowa State had a mere 0.8 and 1.1 million. Even so, the numbers were far from impressive. Head-to-head, the game finished well behind Nebraska/Michigan State on ABC (2.8, 4.6M) and LSU/Auburn on ESPN (2.1, 3.7M).
Earlier in the day, TCU’s upset of Oklahoma drew a 1.3 and 2.2 million. There was no comparable window last year.
