Despite a weekday timeslot, MLB Network earned its best overnight ever for Game 3 between the Nationals and Giants.
Game 3 of the Nationals/Giants National League Division Series drew a 1.4 overnight rating on MLB Network, the highest for any program in its history (dates back to 2008). The previous high was a 1.2 for Saturday’s game between the Cardinals and Dodgers.
MLB Network has just completed its third year carrying playoff baseball, but before this season the telecasts were confined to early afternoon timeslots. This year was the first that the network aired games in the late afternoon or primetime.
As one could reasonably expect, the record numbers for MLB Network still pale in comparison to TBS and Fox Sports 1. The two games on MLB Network rank as the lowest rated of the postseason in the metered markets.
Monday’s late game between the Dodgers and Cardinals drew a 2.2 overnight on Fox Sports 1. Overnights for last year’s comparable games on TBS were not available.
