The final Thursday Night Football game of the season on CBS put up strong numbers in the overnights.
The Week 8 Chargers/Broncos Thursday Night Football game drew a 13.6 overnight rating on CBS and NFL Network, up 268% from Panthers/Buccaneers on NFL Network and local affiliates last year (3.7). Last year’s game aired opposite the World Series.
The Broncos’ win earned the second-highest Thursday Night Football overnight ever (dates back to 2006). Only Steelers/Ravens in Week 2, CBS’ Thursday night debut, drew a higher overnight (13.7). No other TNF game this season has managed to crack the 12.0 mark.
Overall, the seven TNF games on CBS and NFL Network averaged an 11.4 overnight rating — up 81% from the comparable games on NFL Network and local affiliates last year (6.3). The 11.4 average is actually lower than the season’s lowest Sunday Night Football overnight, an 11.6 for Eagles/Giants in Week 6.
