A blah matchup led to blah numbers for ESPN’s Monday Night Football.
The Week 9 Colts/Giants Monday Night Football game drew an 8.5 overnight rating on ESPN, down 18% from Bears/Packers last year (10.4) and down 11% from Eagles/Saints in 2012 (9.5). The 8.5 is the second-lowest MNF overnight of the season, ahead of only the Chargers/Cardinals late game in Week 1 (7.8).
The Colts led the sub-.500 Giants by 27 points entering the fourth quarter.
Seven of ten MNF telecasts this season have had declines in overnight ratings, though three of the previous six ended up with an increase in the final tally. This week’s game is unlikely to have such a turnaround.
ESPN’s telecast drew a 14.0 rating in Indianapolis and an 8.6 in New York. The game was simulcast on local affiliates in both markets, earning a 19.0 on Indy ABC affiliate WRTV and a 3.6 on N.Y. CW affiliate WPIX. Las Vegas (14.8), Seattle (13.0) and New Orleans (12.9) made up the rest of the top five.
