The Breeders Cup classic scored a double-digit boost in overnight ratings on NBC. In other news, NBC had double-digit declines for both the F1 U.S. Grand Prix and the Skate Canada figure skating event.
Breeders Cup Overnights Up From Last Year
- The Breeders’ Cup Classic drew a 1.8 overnight rating on NBC Saturday night, up 29% from last year (1.4) but down 18% from 2012, when coverage had a direct lead-in from Notre Dame football (2.2). The telecast topped competing coverage of the Stanford/Oregon college football game on FOX (1.7), but trailed other college games on ABC and CBS. Earlier coverage on NBCSN drew a 0.3.
Overnights Down Big For F1 USGP
- Sunday’s Formula 1 United States Grand Prix drew a 0.7 overnight rating on NBC, down 30% from last year (1.0). The race trailed NBC’s two previous races this season, the Monaco Grand Prix in May and the Canadian Grand Prix in June (1.1 for both). Of course, those races did not have to compete with the NFL. Qualifying on Saturday drew a 0.5 overnight.
Skate Canada Overnights Down Double-Digits
- Skate Canada, the second event in the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating, drew a 0.7 overnight rating on NBC Sunday afternoon — down 22% from last year’s 0.9 and down 30% from a 1.0 in 2012. The 0.7 is also down a tick from Skate America the previous week.
