In an unusual move, Nielsen has corrected the ratings and viewership for the recent NASCAR race from Talladega. In other news, a shift from live to taped coverage resulted in declines for F1 from Brazil, and NBC tied its best English Premier League rating of the season.
Nielsen Corrects Ratings and Viewership For NASCAR From Talladega
- Nielsen has issued corrected ratings and viewership for the October 19 NASCAR Sprint Cup race from Talladega, revising the numbers upward from 2.7 and 4.3 million to 3.0 and 4.8 million. Despite the correction, the telecast still ranks as the lowest rated fall Talladega race since at least 2000 and the least-viewed since at least 2001. With that said, the correction has boosted the Chase For the Cup, which is now averaging a 2.6 and 4.3 million — flat in ratings and up 3% in viewership from last year, and the most-watched Chase since 2011. Taped F1 From Brazil Down From Live Race Last Year
- Tape delayed coverage of the Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix drew a 0.5 final rating and 630,000 viewers on NBC last Sunday, down 29% in ratings and 41% in viewership from live coverage last year, when it was the final race of the season (0.7, 1.1M). Numbers were not immediately available for the live race on CNBC. (Sports Business Daily)
NBC Ties Best EPL Rating of the Season
- Last Saturday’s Queens Park Rangers/Manchester City English Premier League match earned a 0.7 final rating and 908,000 viewers on NBC, up 40% in ratings and 27% in viewership from Norwich City/West Ham last year (0.5, 717K). The match is tied as NBC’s highest rated match of the season, and ranks as its third-most watched. (Sports Business Daily)
