A stinker match-up on paper sent Thursday Night Football spiraling to an NFL season-low.
The Week 16 Titans/Jaguars Thursday Night Football game drew 4.9 million viewers on NFL Network, the smallest NFL audience of the season on any network. No NFL window has earned a smaller audience since the Jaguars’ last Thursday night appearance — a Week 14 game against the Texans last year (4.6M).
There was some talk of an all-time record low for Titans/Jaguars, but several Thursday Night Football games have dipped lower — including two last season and a Raiders/Chargers game in 2008 that drew just 1.9 million.
To put the numbers in perspective, Titans/Jaguars drew a larger audience than all-but-five of the 239 college football games on the ESPN cable networks this season, and every NBA game thus far — including LeBron James‘ return to the Cavaliers in October (4.0M).
Keep in mind Thursday’s viewership does not include broadcast network simulcasts in both markets.
