NBC has tapped Marv Albert as the blow-by-blow voice of its upcoming Premier Boxing Champions coverage. In other news, Dana Jacobson will host coverage of the same boxing series on Spike TV, and founder of NFL Films Ed Sabol has passed away.
Marv Albert Back on NBC For Boxing Series
- Longtime NBC Sports broadcaster Marv Albert is returning to the network as the blow-by-blow voice for coverage of the new Premier Boxing Champions series. Albert, it was announced Monday, will work alongside analyst Sugar Ray Leonard on NBC’s 11 PBC telecasts, starting with the primetime premiere on March 7. Al Michaels was previously announced as host for the debut telecast. The new assignment does not change Albert’s status with Turner Sports or CBS. (NBC Sports Group Press Box)
CBS Sports’ Jacobson to Host PBC on Spike
- Also announced Monday, CBS Sports broadcaster Dana Jacobson will host coverage of the same Premier Boxing Champions series on Spike TV. Jacobson, best known for her work on ESPN, will make her debut on Spike TV’s first telecast March 13. The blow-by-blow and analyst positions have yet to be announced. Spike TV announced its deal with the PBC late last month. (Spike TV)
NFL Films Founder Sabol Dead at 98
- Ed Sabol, founder of NFL Films and father of the late Steve Sabol, passed away Monday at age 98. Sabol was chairman of NFL Films from its inception until his retirement in 1995, and is credited with helping grow the NFL from an also-ran to the nation’s dominant sport. (NFL.com)
