The Penguins and Blackhawks combined to deliver NBC’s best indoor hockey overnight of the season.
The Penguins/Blackhawks NHL regular season game drew a 1.2 overnight rating on NBC Sunday afternoon, down a tick from Penguins/Sabres in 2013, part of a Hockey Day in America doubleheader (1.3). There was no comparable game in 2014 due to the Olympics.
Outside of the Winter Classic (2.3), the Blackhawks’ win earned the highest overnight of the season on NBC.
The 1.2 is not dramatically higher than the other indoor overnights this season. NBC’s previous high was a 1.1 for Rangers/Penguins in January, and its other two indoor telecasts each had a 1.0.
