Overnight ratings increased for the Farmers Insurance Open despite Tiger Woods’ slump, though the numbers were still well below his victory there two years ago.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Farmers Insurance Open drew a 2.5 overnight rating on CBS Sunday afternoon, up 9% from last year (2.3) but down 32% from comparable Sunday coverage in 2013, when Woods won the event (3.7).
The 2.5 overnight is the third-highest for final round coverage since 2008 (4.6), but the sixth-lowest since Woods’ first victory at the event in 1999 (17 telecasts). The six lowest overnights since 1999 have been in years when Woods withdrew (this year), did not play (2009, 2010 and 2012), finished outside of the top 40 (2011 and 2014) or — oddly — won (2005).
After topping a 4.0 overnight in eight of ten years from 1999 to 2008, overnights for the Farmers Insurance Open have now failed to hit that mark in seven consecutive years.
On Saturday, third round action drew a 1.4 overnight — up 27% from last year (1.1) but down 13% from rainout coverage in 2013 (1.6).
