Fox Sports Ohio earned one of its highest ratings ever for a non-simulcast Cleveland Cavaliers game. In other news, ESPN had mixed numbers for a Wednesday NBA doubleheader, and the latest USA men’s soccer friendly could not compare to last year’s rivalry match against Mexico.
Near-Record Local Rating For Cavaliers
- Wednesday’s Cavaliers/Grizzlies NBA regular season game drew a 12.1 rating on Fox Sports Ohio, the network’s second-highest rating ever for a Cavaliers game that was not simulcast on a local broadcast network. Only Cavaliers/Sixers in April 2009 (14.1) had a higher rating. The previous high this season was an 11.5 for Cavaliers/Magic earlier in the month. (ohio.com)
Solid Bump For Thunder/Spurs Blowout
- ESPN earned 1.5 million viewers for the Thunder/Spurs game Wednesday night, up 19% from Grizzlies/Jazz last year (1.3M) and up 1% from Nets/Blazers in 2013 (1.53M to 1.52M). Bulls/Raptors drew 953,000 earlier in the night, down 72% from Heat/Pacers last year (3.3M), down 76% from Heat/Bulls in 2013 (3.9M), and the ninth nationally televised game this season to dip below one million viewers (excludes NBA TV). 400K For USA Soccer Friendly on Wednesday
- The Denmark/United States men’s soccer friendly, the third match of the year for the U.S. men’s national team, earned 400,000 viewers on ESPN Wednesday afternoon — down 63% from the third match last year, a late-night meeting with rival Mexico (1.1M). Denmark’s extra-time victory trailed the year’s previous USMNT match on ESPN, against Panama in February (674K), but topped the first match of the year against Chile on Fox Sports 1 (254K).
