The first race of the Formula 1 season attracted a slightly larger audience earlier this month. In other news, NASCAR’s Xfinity Series had another decline on Fox Sports 1, and fewer viewers watched a Tuesday NBA doubleheader on TNT.
Modest Bump in Viewership For Season-Opening F1 Race
- The season-opening Formula 1 race from Australia earned a 0.2 final rating and 260,000 viewers on NBCSN March 15, flat in ratings and up 5% in viewership from last year (0.2, 248K) and up 100% and 110%, respectively, from 2013 (0.1, 124K). Another Decline For Xfinity Series on FS1
- NASCAR Xfinity Series racing from Fontana (CA) earned 1.4 million viewers on Fox Sports 1 Saturday afternoon, down 21% from last year’s race on ESPN (1.8M) and down 19% from the 2013 race, also on ESPN (1.7M). Viewership was the lowest for the race since at least 2008, when it was rained out and postponed to Monday. All four Xfinity Series races on FS1 have had year-over-year declines. (via ShowBuzz Daily)
Fewer Viewers For Tuesday NBA Doubleheader on TNT
- Tuesday’s Warriors/Blazers NBA regular season game drew 1.4 million viewers on TNT, down 6% from Knicks/Lakers last year (1.4M) and down 17% from Clippers/Mavericks in 2013 (1.6M). Spurs/Mavericks earned 1.2 million earlier in the night, down a third from Thunder/Mavericks last year (1.7M) and down 20% from Knicks/Celtics in 2013 (1.5M). Of the 89 non-Cavaliers NBA games that can be compared to last year, 67 have had declines in viewership. (via TV By the Numbers)
