The NHL and ESPN are officially back in business.
The ESPN family of networks will televise the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, ESPN and the NHL announced in a joint statement Wednesday. ESPN and ESPN2 will combine for at least 16-17 telecasts, including the entire best-of-three final.
The deal was first announced by TSN reporter Rick Westhead via Twitter last month.
The World Cup will be the first NHL-affiliated programming on ESPN since the last World Cup of Hockey in 2004. ESPN relinquished its rights to the league in 2005.
