The Women’s College World Series continues to put up stronger numbers on ESPN.
Game 2 of the Florida/Michigan Women’s College World Series earned 1.9 million viewers on ESPN Tuesday night, up 32% from Florida/Alabama last year (1.4M) and up 42% from Oklahoma/Tennessee in 2013 (1.3M). The Wolverines’ series-tying win earned the fifth-largest audience ever for a WCWS game on the ESPN family of networks.
This year’s tournament accounts for two of the five largest WCWS audiences ever, with Sunday’s Michigan/LSU game ranking third (2.0M).
The Game 2 performance was a repeat of Monday’s series opener on ESPN2, which had increases of 37% over last year and 25% over 2013. It was the most-watched Game 1 of the championship series since it expanded to a best-of-three format in 2005.
Locally, Detroit was the top market for the first two games of the series, averaging a 3.7 rating. Birmingham (3.2), Knoxville, TN (2.9), Jacksonville (2.6) and Oklahoma City (2.6) rounded out the top five.
