After opening with its smallest audience in at least eight years, the College World Series final fared better in its second outing. In other news, Euro 2016 scored its largest audiences yet during the round of sixteen, and ESPN’s Wimbledon viewership is trending below last year.
CWS Final Bounces Back in Game 2
- Game 2 of the Coastal Carolina/Arizona College World Series final earned 1.6 million viewers on ESPN Tuesday night, up 18% from last year (1.3M) but down 13% from 2014 (1.8M), both of which pitted Virginia against Vanderbilt. Ratings were not immediately available. The Chanticleers’ series-tying win snapped a streak of four straight declines for the championship round, dating back to last year.
Euro 2016 Hits Highs During Round of Sixteen
- Saturday’s Portugal/Croatia Euro 2016 round of sixteen match delivered 1.6 million viewers on ESPN, the largest audience of the tournament. There was no comparable match in 2012, as this is the first year the tournament has included a round of sixteen. The following day, Germany/Slovakia (1.4M) and Hungary/Belgium (1.3M) earned the second and third-largest audiences of the tournament. Viewership includes pre-match coverage.
First Two Days of Wimbledon Down on ESPN
- ESPN’s early round coverage of Wimbledon scored 395,000 viewers on Monday and 448,000 on Tuesday, down 3% and 19%, respectively, from 408,000 and 551,000 last year. Monday’s coverage ranked well behind Euro 2016 coverage on ESPN2, which scored 1.1 million for Iceland/England and 809,000 for Italy/Spain.
