The College World Series final ended with another double-digit decline in viewership.
Game 3 of the Virginia/Vanderbilt College World Series final drew 1.7 million viewers on ESPN Wednesday night, down 30% from the same match-up last year (2.4M), and down 47% from LSU/Texas in 2009 (3.2M), the two most recent game threes.
Despite featuring the same two teams as last year, each game of the series declined by at least a quarter in viewership. In addition, each game trailed comparable coverage of the Women’s CWS final earlier in the month — which drew 2.3 million for its deciding Game 3.
Overall, Wednesday’s game earned the 10th-largest baseball or softball audience on the ESPN networks this season — trailing three games of the Women’s College World Series and six Sunday Night Baseball telecasts.
