Once again, overnight ratings increased for the PGA Tour.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Memorial Tournament earned a 2.7 overnight rating on CBS Sunday afternoon, up 13% from last year (2.4), up 23% from 2013 (2.2), and the highest for the event since Tiger Woods‘ win in 2012 (3.8). Keep in mind Woods finished dead last this year.
The 2.7 is tied as third-highest of the season for a non-major PGA Tour telecast, matching the final round of the Houston Open and trailing only the final rounds of the Northern Trust Open (3.0) and Players Championship (3.9).
The Memorial was the 10th of the past 13 PGA Tour tournaments to have an increase in final round overnights, and the fifth straight. Overall, 13 of the 19 PGA tournaments this season have had an increase.
Third round action last Saturday drew a 1.5 overnight, down a tick from last year (1.6), down 17% from 2013 (1.8), and tied as the lowest for any weekend coverage of the event since 2008 (1.4). Of the past 26 PGA Tour telecasts on broadcast (dating back to the Tampa Bay Championship in March), Saturday’s was just the fifth to have a decline in overnights.
