For the ninth time in 12 weeks, ratings increased for the final round of a PGA Tour event.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Byron Nelson Championship earned a 1.6 final rating and 2.4 million viewers on CBS last Sunday, up a tick in ratings and 11% in viewership from last year (1.5, 2.2M), and the ninth of the past 12 final round telecasts to have an increase in one or both measures.
Unlike several recent tournaments, including the Colonial the previous week, final round coverage did not hit a multi-year high. The 1.6 rating trailed 2013 by 16% (1.9). Even so, it was the third-highest rated final round since 2008.
The 1.6 ranks among the lowest for a Sunday telecast this season, matching the New Orleans Classic and ahead of only the Texas Open (1.4) and WGC Match Play (1.5).
Third round action last Saturday drew a 1.3 and 1.8 million viewers — up 18% and 20%, respectively, from last year (1.1, 1.5M). 10 of the last 12 third round telecasts have had an increase in ratings.
