FOX earned better numbers for its second weekend of Women’s World Cup coverage. In other news, the Women’s PGA Championship had big increases on NBC and Golf Channel, and the Yankees and Mets are going in opposite directions in New York.
FOX Sees Improved Overnights For Women’s World Cup Doubleheader
- The FOX broadcast network earned a 1.2 overnight rating for Saturday’s England/Mexico FIFA Women’s World Cup match and a 1.1 for France/Colombia earlier in the day. Both telecasts topped the network’s previous weekend doubleheader, which drew overnights of 1.0 and 0.8 six days earlier. (via Sports Business Daily)
Big Increases For Women’s PGA Championship
- Coverage of the Women’s PGA Championship, the second major of the LPGA Tour season, drew a 0.6 overnight rating on NBC both Saturday and Sunday — up 136% and 94%, respectively, from last year on Golf Channel. The network switch was not the reason for the growth, as the first two rounds on Golf Channel were also up substantially. Thursday’s opening round jumped 80% to 388,000 viewers and Friday’s second round rose 84% to 329,000. (Sports Business Daily, NBC via TV By the Numbers)
Yankees Down, Mets Up, in New York
- New York Yankees Major League Baseball games have averaged a 2.51 rating on YES Network through last Tuesday, according to Newsday, down 20% from the comparable point last year. Mets games have averaged a 2.27 on SNY over the same stretch, up 19%. The 11% gap between the two teams is much smaller than the 83% gulf at the end of last season. (Newsday)
