A competitive finish helped the final round of the British Open pull even with last year.
Final round coverage of the British Open drew a 2.6 overnight rating on ESPN Monday, even with last year in the traditional Sunday timeslot. The 2.6 is tied with last year as the lowest for final round coverage of the event, though the Monday finish provides an obvious caveat.
Monday’s overnight also matched third round action the previous day.
While rain wreaked havoc with this year’s British Open schedule, a compelling last two rounds made up for the delays. Masters and U.S. Open champion Jordan Spieth finished one shot shy of a playoff, and his quest to win all four majors likely kept the numbers afloat.
Keep in mind the 2.6 overnight does not include the 6-8 AM ET window, which was measured as a separate telecast.
