Viewership for the Copa América declined by a third on little-distributed beIN Sports. In other news, the latest U.S. men’s soccer friendly was a softer draw, and ratings for the Miami Marlins have increased double-digits.
Big Declines For Copa América Final
- The Argentina/Chile Copa América final drew a combined 1.5 million viewers on beIN Sports and beIN Sports en Espanol Saturday afternoon, down a third from the 2011 Uruguay/Paraguay final on Univision alone (2.3M). Keep in mind beIN Sports is in many fewer homes than Univision. The Spanish-language telecast had 1.0 million viewers, while English-language coverage drew 464,000. (PR Newswire)
Softer Numbers For USA Men’s Friendly
- Friday’s United States/Guatemala men’s soccer friendly drew 469,000 viewers on Fox Sports 1, ranking fifth out of the eight U.S. men’s matches this year. The previous three matches each topped the 600,000 mark. There was no comparable match last year, when the World Cup was taking place. (via ShowBuzz Daily)
Marlins Ratings Up Double-Digits
- Miami Marlins Major League Baseball games have averaged a 1.92 rating on Fox Sports Florida through Monday, up 17% from the comparable point last year. Games averaged a 2.1 rating in the month of June, marking the team’s first month above the 2.0 mark in nearly three years. (South Florida Sun-Sentinel)
