Mets/Dodgers was the top draw of ESPN’s pre-July 4 MLB tripleheader. In other news, the opening rounds of the Greenbrier Classic scored major gains on Golf Channel, and ESPN scored its largest audience of this year’s Wimbledon on Friday.
Mets/Dodgers Tops Special ESPN Tripleheader
- Friday’s Mets/Dodgers Major League Baseball game, part of a special pre-holiday tripleheader, scored 768,000 viewers on ESPN — the network’s largest weeknight MLB audience since June 1. Giants/Nationals earned 521,000 earlier in the evening, down 36% from Rays/Tigers last year, which aired on the actual July 4 holiday (811K). Rounding out the slate, Marlins/Cubs drew 500,000 on ESPN2 — down 39% from Yankees/Twins last year (825K).
Huge Gains For First Rounds of Greenbrier Classic
- Second round coverage of the PGA Tour Greenbrier Classic drew 1.0 million viewers on Golf Channel Friday afternoon, up 129% from last year (451K) and up 145% from 2013 (422K). First round action the previous day drew just 484,000 — still up 41% from last year (343K) but down 10% from 2013 (535K). Keep in mind coverage featured Tiger Woods this year, after he did not play the previous two years.
ESPN Hits Tournament-High For Wimbledon
- ESPN drew 1.0 million viewers for Wimbledon coverage on Friday, which featured Serena Williams‘ comeback victory over Heather Watson — easily the network’s largest audience of the tournament through that point. The first four days of the coverage did not crack the 700,000 viewer mark.
