As one would expect given the presence of Mexico and the United States, the Gold Cup semifinals did well in the Nielsens.
The Mexico/Panama CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinal drew 4.3 million viewers across UniMas and Univision Deportes Network, up 29% from the same matchup on the same networks in 2013 (3.3M), but down 40% from Mexico/Honduras on Univision in 2011 (7.1M). The match had an additional 287,000 viewers on Fox Sports 2, equaling a combined audience of 4.6 million.
Mexico’s win earned the second-largest audience of the tournament thus far, trailing only Sunday’s Mexico/Costa Rica quarterfinal — which drew 4.7 million on Univision/UDN and 5.3 million overall.
Earlier in the night, Jamaica’s upset win over the United States drew 1.8 million on UniMas/UDN and 1.2 million on Fox Sports 1, equaling a combined audience of 3.0 million. The FS1 audience is the largest ever for men’s soccer on the network, which rebranded from Speed Channel two years ago.
