With the caveat that last year’s game put up exceptionally poor numbers, ESPN scored a big jump for Oklahoma’s comeback against Tennessee.
The Oklahoma/Tennessee college football game drew a 2.6 overnight rating on ESPN Saturday evening, up 271% from Mississippi/Vanderbilt last year (0.7) but down 46% from Georgia/South Carolina in 2013 (4.8), both of which aired in a later timeslot.
The Sooners’ double-overtime win scored the highest overnight of the weekend for college football on cable, and the fourth-highest regardless of network.
Overall, the 2.6 is the second-highest of the young season for college football on cable — trailing only Ohio State/Virginia Tech on Labor Day (6.6).
