A low-profile opponent meant a low overnight rating for Notre Dame on NBC.
The UMass/Notre Dame college football game drew a 1.45 overnight rating on NBC Saturday afternoon, down 31% from Purdue/Notre Dame in primetime last year (2.1) and down 48% from Oklahoma/Notre Dame in the afternoon two years ago (2.8).
Notre Dame’s win was the lowest rated college football game on broadcast over the weekend. Head-to-head, it trailed Tennessee/Florida on CBS (3.2), regional action on ABC (2.8), TCU/Texas Tech on FOX (1.9) and even Oklahoma State/Texas on cable network ESPN (1.8).
The game also scored the lowest overnight for any Notre Dame telecast this season, regardless of network. The previous three each drew at least a 2.6.
