Not surprisingly, Mississippi’s high-scoring upset of Alabama was a big draw in the metered markets.
The Mississippi/Alabama college football game drew a 4.6 overnight rating on ESPN Saturday night, up 254% from USC/Boston College last year (1.3) and up 283% from Vanderbilt/South Carolina in 2013 (1.2), both of which aired in earlier timeslots.
The 4.6 overnight is the third-highest of the season on any network, trailing only Oregon/Michigan State on ABC in week two (5.0) and Ohio State/Virginia Tech on ESPN in week one (6.6).
Last year’s Alabama/Mississippi game, also an upset, had a 3.9 overnight on broadcast network CBS.
In other action, ESPN drew a 2.3 overnight for Friday’s Florida State/Boston College game — the network’s highest on the night since Boise State/Michigan State in August 2012 (2.5).
