Viewership for the U.S. Open has surged nearly 60 percent from last year.
Through Wednesday, coverage of the U.S. Open has averaged a 0.6 rating and 853,000 viewers across ESPN and ESPN2 — up 50% in ratings and 58% in viewership from last year (0.4, 540K), and up a tick and 25%, respectively, from 2013 (0.5, 683K).
Wednesday’s night session, which featured Venus Williams and Novak Djokovic, was the most-watched telecast yet with 1.1 million viewers on ESPN2. Head-to-head, ESPN2’s live tennis coverage topped ESPN’s Wednesday Night Baseball by 28% (1.1M to 841K).
The day session, which featured Serena Williams‘ unexpectedly close match against Kiki Bertens, scored 953,000 on ESPN. The one-hour bridge between the afternoon and night sessions scored 701,000 on ESPN2.
