Despite a double-digit drop in the overnights, the NFL national window topped a packed sports weekend.
The Week 6 NFL national window, featuring Chargers/Packers, drew a 15.5 overnight rating on CBS Sunday afternoon — down 19% from coverage featuring Cowboys/Seahawks last year (19.2) and down 11% from coverage featuring Saints/Patriots in 2013 (17.5), both of which aired on FOX.
The 15.5 is the second-highest NFL overnight of the season on CBS, trailing only coverage featuring Patriots/Cowboys the previous week (16.4). Overall, it ranks seventh among all networks.
Despite the strong number, Sunday’s telecast was the 14th of 37 this season to have a year-over-year decline in overnights, with half of those 14 having aired on CBS.
Earlier in the day, the early doubleheader window drew a 12.4 overnight — up 11% from coverage featuring Patriots/Dolphins last year (11.2) and up 7% from coverage featuring Packers/Ravens in 2013 (11.6), both of which aired on FOX. The 12.4 is the highest of the season for the window, topping the previous mark of 11.0 in Week 3.
