NBC hit a season-low for Sunday Night Football, but continued its streak of year-over-year increases.
The Week 5 49ers/Giants Sunday Night Football game drew a 13.1 overnight rating on NBC, up 2% from Patriots/Bengals last year (12.8), up 13% from Texans/49ers in 2013 (11.6), and the top Week 5 SNF overnight in five years — since Colts/Washington in 2010 (13.2).
All six NFL telecasts on NBC this season have hit a multi-year high in overnights. This is the first time since resuming NFL coverage in 2006 that NBC has had increases for each of its first six games.
Despite the increase, the Giants’ win ranks as NBC’s lowest rated game of the season in the metered markets. The previous low was a 13.8 for Broncos/Lions in Week 3. Keep in mind it faced competition from the season premiere of AMC’s The Walking Dead.
Sacramento was Sunday’s top market with a 24.2 rating, followed by the Bay Area (22.6), Las Vegas (20.7), West Palm Beach (16.9) and New York (16.8).
